Inter Ward Konkani Devotional Hymns Singing Competition - 2024 organised by Derebail Church Choir Group

The Choir Group of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail organized an Inter Ward Devotional Hymns competition for the Children's Category below 18 years on Sunday, 14th January 2024, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Church Main Hall.

Mrs. Juliana Coelho, the Choir President, extended a warm welcome to the august gathering, dignitaries, and guests. V.Rev.Fr. Joseph Martis inaugurated the competition with the hymn ‘Gayta Kaliz Muje Ye Somiya’. Rev.Fr. Joseph Martis, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Parishad (PPP) – Mrs. Sheela Dsouza, Mr. Denzil Pinto – Secretary of PPP, Mr. Anil Patrao, Co-ordinator of 21 Commission – PPP, and convener of the Choir singing competition, Mrs. Juliana Coelho, President, Choir Group, Derebail, Mrs. Sunitha Pinto, Secretary of Choir Group were present on the dias.

Following the inauguration, Choir Treasurer Mrs. Lydia Dcosta, Mrs. Sheela Dsouza, and Mr. Edward Coelho – Ex-presidents of the Choir Group, warmly welcomed the judges of the competition – Rev.Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes, Mrs. Shilpa Tejaswini Coutinho, and Mr. Antony Martis with a bouquet of flowers.

Mr. Anil Patrao, Convenor of the Competition, briefed the rules and regulations. In the Children's category, there were five segments:

1. Up to 6 Years Solo, common for both Boys & Girls – 17 entries
2. Above 6 years to 12 years Solo, common for both Boys & Girls – 57 entries
3. Above 12 years to 18 years Solo for Boys – 12 entries and Girls - 19 entries.
4. Up to 18 years Duet for Boys - 5 entries and Girls – 11 entries
5. Group boys and girls mixed – entry per ward – 14 entries.

The competitors showcased enthusiasm and quality in their performances. Choir Secretary, Mr. Sunitha Pinto, introduced the judges. Mrs. Shilpa Coutinho, one of the judges, shared her experience, appreciating the competitive spirit of the children and encouraging them to maintain this spirit in future opportunities.

Overall Champions:
1. Bejai Ward - 20 points
2. Gollachil Ward -13 points
3. Kottara Ward- 6 points

Convenor of the Competition rendered the vote of thanks, and snacks were provided to the competitors. The competition, well-organized by the Choir Group, left the Parishioners delighted and grateful.
