Church Choir Group Hosts Devotional Hymns Singing Competition: Enthusiastic Participation from Parishioners

Choir Group of Most Holy Redeemers Church, Derebail, organized the second part of the Inter Ward Devotional Hymns competition for the Adults Category above 18 years, held on Saturday, 20th January 2024, and on Sunday, 21st January 2024, in the evening at the Church Main Hall.

The competition commenced with a hymn of St. Cecilia. The Choir President, Mrs. Juliana Coelho, welcomed the august gathering. V. Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Director and Parish Priest, inaugurated the competition by blessing the competitors and parishioners present.

Mr. Anil Patrao, Convenor, briefed the rules and regulations of the competition. There were five categories on Saturday, 20.01.2024:

1. Solo – Above 75 years (Common for Ladies & Gents) – 13 entries
2. Solo – Above 60 Upto 75 Years – Gents – 17 entries
3. Solo – Above 60 Upto 75 Years – Ladies – 21 entries
4. Solo – Above 40 Upto 60 Years – Gents – 18 entries
5. Solo – Above 40 Upto 60 Years – Ladies – 32 entries

And five categories on Sunday 21.01.2024:

6. Solo – Above 18 Upto 40 Years - Gents – 14 entries
7. Solo – Above 18 Upto 40 Years - Ladies – 29 entries
8. Duet – Above 18 Years - Gents – 15 entries
9. Duet – Above 18 Years - Ladies – 31 entries
10. Group – Above 18 Years – Ladies & Gents Mixed – 21 entries

The participation of the competitors was in full swing with enthusiasm and quality. The same judges were arranged for all the days of the competition – Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes, Mrs. Shilpa Tejaswini Coutinho, and Mr. Antony Martis. The Choir Secretary, Mrs. Sunitha Pinto, introduced the judges. One of the judges, Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes, shared the experience and appreciated the participants' number and category. He mentioned that this competition is complementary to the year 2024-25 for Prayer. He also stated that this competition is unique compared to various competitions of the Diocese and elsewhere because all age groups of different categories are given the opportunity to participate, and the competition was systematically organized. He congratulated the Derebail Parish Priest, Choir Group, and the Organising Committee.
