Women's Day Celebration at Kottara Ward

'Blessed & Beautiful' was the theme of the Women's day celebration held at Kottara ward on 3rd March at 'Remliz', the residence of Mrs. Lizzy D'silva. A total of 38 women from the Ward and esteemed guests that included,  Mrs. Sheela D'Souza, Vice President, Derebail Parish, Sr. Juliana Tellis, Mother Superior, St. Ann's Convent, Sr. Maria Aranha, Headmistress, St. Ann's High School. Sr. Juliana from Tanzania, Dr. Gladys Rodrigues, Associate Professor, KMC Hospital graced the occasion.

The celebration began with a Prayer Song, followed by a Bible reading from Proverbs 31, prayers of Thanksgiving and petitions, Angelus and a closing hymn. The program was compered by Mrs. Lavisha Castelino.

This was followed by a brief message from the Gurkar, Mr. Michael D'silva where he encouraged the women to continue to work together and thanked them for their wholehearted participation and support.

Mrs. Sheela D'Souza was grateful for all the cooperation and leadership taken for all the programs conducted in the Parish & Ward. She specifically called out the efforts taken by the Ward members in attending the 24 hour adoration held last year in large numbers, which included young & old, even though it was from 1 to 2 am in the night. She encouraged the gathering to join the groups created for the upcoming devotional hymns evening in large numbers.

As a token of respect and appreciation, women who had completed 75 years were honoured. They included Mrs. Lilly D'Souza, Mrs. Eva D'cunha, Mrs. Lizzy D'silva, Mrs. Lucy Nazareth,  Mrs. Mary Lobo and Mrs. Lilly Castelino. A brief introduction was shared about them and their achievements. The Gurkar presented them with a token of appreciation.

This was followed by a group picture of the gathering who were dressed in Red & Black outfits which was the dress code.

As guests of honor, Dr. Gladys Rodrigues addressed the gathering on the role of a Christian woman and shared her experiences which were very insightful and helpful. Deepa Gonsalves, a fitness expert from the Ward talked about the need for women to take care of their own health and the importance of remaining fit and healthy.

A quiz was held on 'Women in the Bible' and the gathering was divided into four groups. The evening included spot games, fun games, solo and duet singing,  group dances, housie- housie- and a lot more. Prizes were distributed to all the winners.

A delicious dinner was prepared by the women in the ward and Sr. Juliana led the Grace before meals. Hand made mementoes based on the theme were given as take away gifts to each one who attended the program and 'Blessed & Beautiful' ended on a high note of Thanksgiving and appreciation to the Organizers.
