Wadya Sangi Monthi Fest: Nativity Celebration by Barebail Upper Ward

Barebail Upper Ward celebrated Monthi fest  on 13th September 2026 at the residence of Mr. Arun and Mrs. Shilpa Serrao. 12 families  were present with 3 men, 10 women and 5 children.The meeting brought together ward members in a spirit of prayer, fellowship and joy.

Mr. Arun Serrao warmly welcomed all the ward members present. He also explained the origin of the Monthi Fest in Dakshina Kannada, its significance, and the tradition of celebrating the harvest, popularly known as Nove Zevunche. He highlighted the importance of the feast and the joy of celebrating the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary together as a community.

The meeting began with the hymn.  Mrs. Flossy Pais led the prayer service, which included the Novena prayers to blessed Virgin Mary and other prayers. As part of the celebration, each member placed a flower before the portrait of Infant Mary.

Vorn (payasam) was then served to all. The traditional sweet dish symbolised the joy of the feast.

The Bible reading from the Gospel of St.John 10: verse 7-18. was read by Mrs. Felcy Pasanna, followed by the selection of the Word for the Upcoming Days: “Jesu Boro Govli.”

The minutes of the previous SCC meeting were read by the Secretary Mrs. Irene Martis. The Gurkar Mr Alwyn requested ward  members to visit the sick people of the ward as part of the ward’s service and outreach activities.

Mrs. Janet Pais organised enjoyable games for both children and adults. The activities included naming as many titles of Mother Mary as possible and singing Marian hymns. Mrs. Rita D’Souza also conducted a fun game for all the members present. Gifts were distributed to the winners, adding to the joy and excitement of the evening.

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, celebrated on 5th September, two teachers, Mrs. Irene Martis and Mrs. Janet Pais, were felicitated in appreciation of their dedicated service and contribution to education.

Those celebrating their birthdays during the month were presented with roses and warmly wished. 
Mrs. Shilpa Serrao expressed her gratitude to all the members for their presence and active participation in the SCC meeting and other ward activities.

The hosts, Mr. Arun and Mrs. Shilpa Serrao, graciously served refreshments to all.

The meeting concluded on a joyful note. It was a very memorable evening of prayer, fellowship, celebration and unity, bringing the ward members together to share the joy of the Nativity Feast and the blessings of the harvest.
