Children’s Zamath at Kapikad Ward

The Basic Ecclesial Community of Kapikad Ward, Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, organised a Children’s Zamath on Sunday, 14th June 2026, at the residence of Mr. Manuel and Mrs. Leena Monis at 4:30 PM.

For the first time, the children of Kapikad Ward organised and conducted the BEC ward meeting along with elders, using the Seven Steps Method of Prayer. Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris and Bro. Prajwal were the guests of honour.

Michelle Monteiro welcomed the guests, children, and elders. The gathering began with the Samudhay Geeth – “Wadya Zamathenth Bosuyam”, which served as an ice-breaking session.

Chrystel Sequeira led the Zamath using the Seven Steps Method, and Ryma Lobo invited the Lord Jesus into their midst. The Word of God was taken from the Gospel of St. John 6:51-58. Michelle, Chrystel, and Avin proclaimed the reading.

Five children picked the Word and proclaimed it three times during the Zamath. After a moment of silence, the Zamath chose the Zivithache Utaar – “I am the living Bread” – Jn 6:51. All participants repeated it three times. Prerakh requested everyone to remember and live this Zivithache Utaar until the next Zamath.

At the 6th step, Gurkar, Mrs. Juliana Coelho reviewed the services carried out after the last meeting. She updated the members on recent parish developments discussed in the last Parish Pastoral Council meeting: the new project to facilitate a space on the church residence terrace for conducting catechism classes, an appeal for donations and the new Konkani Missal. The service for the upcoming month was also decided. The Seven Steps concluded with individual prayers, petitions, and the Lord’s Prayer.

Sylvester D’Cunha, Ward Secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting. The Gurkar, together with the ward families, extended birthday and wedding anniversary wishes to all members celebrating in June.

Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris addressed the gathering. He congratulated the children, their parents, the Gurkar, the representatives, and all ward members for organising the Children’s Zamath and encouraging the little ones. He requested a round of applause for the children. He said, “If these children learn now, they will later become leaders in the ward and church, and shine in society with Christian values, continuing the mission of Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jyothi Rosario conducted games for the children and all participants. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris distributed prizes to the winners – Chrystel Sequeira and Juliana Coelho.

Bro. Prajwal introduced himself, shared his experiences in religious life, and requested prayers to become a dedicated priest.

Avin Augustine proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with the hymn “Namo Namo Jezuraya Sodvondara”.

The hosts, provided seating arrangements and warm hospitality, serving high tea to all.

Total 33 members participated including 9 children.
