A Visit to the Dearly Departed: Members of Kottara Ward Offer Prayers and Flowers
Visiting the graves of loved ones, individually or as a family, is a common practice. But visiting the cemetery together with ward members as one family was an unique experience for the members of Kottara Ward.
The ward members of Kottara visited the cemetery at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail on Friday, 21st August 2026 as one family.
A collective prayer for all the departed souls in the cemetery was offered, with special prayers for the souls of those who have no one to pray for them.
After that, a minute's silent prayer was offered at the graves of the individual departed members of the ward and also for the priests who had served in Derebail parish.
The family members offered flowers at the graves of their loved ones and then collectively as ward members at all the graves.
The visit to the graves of the departed was indeed a humbling experience for the ward members. It also aided the ward members to recollect and acknowledge the services they had rendered to the ward and church during their lifetime.
The ward members look forward to making this a regular practice with more ward members joining in the future.
