Derebail Church Organises Programme on “Civil Services and the possibilities for Our Children”
Derebail Church organised an informative programme titled “Civil Services and the possibilities available for Our Children” for students from Grade 7 to II PUC. The objective was to create awareness about the opportunities available in the Indian civil services and to encourage young minds to consider it as a viable and noble career path.
The programme began with a short prayer, followed by an introduction of the esteemed resource persons: Mr Francis D’Cunha, Mr Patrick Braggs, and Mr Charles Lobo.
The resource persons gave an in-depth presentation on the various branches of the civil services in India, the educational qualifications required, and the different avenues available to enter this prestigious field. They stressed the importance of early preparation and outlined how children should be guided from a young age to face competitive exams confidently.
They also appealed to parents to seriously consider the potential of civil services and to actively encourage their children to pursue this path. As Catholics, they noted, we have often lagged behind in this area despite having highly capable students, access to quality education, and good support systems. In an era where job opportunities are becoming increasingly limited, especially in the private sector and oversees, civil services offer a stable and impactful career.
The talks were enlightening, inspiring, and filled with practical insights.
The event was initiated by the Parish Commission for Education, under the guidance of the Catholic Board of Education, Diocese of Mangalore, and CODP. It was well organised, thanks to the presence and support of the Parish Pastoral Council Vice President, Secretary, Director of the 21 Pastoral Commissions, the Parish Priest, and the Assistant Parish Priest, Secretary of the CBE and CODP.
More than 200 participants—including students and their parents—attended the programme. The session commenced at 10:15 a.m. and concluded at 12:15 p.m.
Sincere thanks to all participants and especially to the resource persons for their valuable time and input.
