Celebrating Christ’s Love and the Institution of the Eucharist and Priesthood: Maundy Thursday at Derebail Parish

The Maundy Thursday mass, which marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum, was held at the Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail on 2nd April 2026 at 6:30 PM. The celebration was led by Rev. Fr. Praveen Joy Saldhana, Professor at St. Joseph's Seminary, Jeppu along with Rev Fr Joseph Martis and Rev Fr Steevan Nelson Peres.

In his homily, Fr Praveen explained the importance of the day. He spoke about the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, the institution of the Holy Eucharist, and the message of love, service, and humility shown when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet.

The entire liturgy highlighted three main aspects: the washing of the feet as a sign of service, the institution of Holy Communion, and the institution of the priesthood.

The mass ended with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose. During the Holy Hour, the faithful prayed and reflected on Jesus’ suffering at the Garden of Gethsemane. Fr Joseph led a prayer service, and the youth choir added to the solemnity of the celebration.
