Sports Day at Derebail Parish: Parishioners Participate With Enthusiasm

The Sports Club of Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail and Lions Club Mangalore Ladyhill jointly conducted Sports Day with Tournament and Games on 9 October, 2022 at Parish Grounds for the parishioners of Derebail. This event was organised in memory of Ms.Maizy Fernandes and Mr.Ronald Fernandes.

The tournament began with a prayer conducted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. The stage programme was graced by the Parish Priest Rev.Fr. Joseph Martis, Rev Fr. Gerald Pinto, Vice President Pastoral Commitee Mrs. Sheela D'souza, Secretary- Mr. Gaulbert Pais, President of Lions Club Ladyhill- Mr. Lancy D'costa, President of Derebail Sports Club Mr. Sandesh Mascarenhas and Secretary Mrs. Lydia Dcosta.

Rev. Fr. Gerald addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of sports. The guests then officially inaugurated the Cricket and other tournaments.

Mr. Sheldon Crasta, the compere welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Pramila Furtado proposed the vote of thanks.

There were 6 teams in cricket, which was conducted in the morning. The day passed with the spectators witnessing some amazing competition among the teams. The commentator for cricket was Mr. Vincent Sequeira from Jeppu. He did a fantastic job. Cricket finals were held between the winners Mr. Edward Sequeira and team & Mr.Roshan Vas & team. Mr.Edward Sequeira and team emerged as winners and Roshan Vas and team bagged the Runners Up position.

Mrs Pramila Furtado conducted various games for children and youngsters from Lower Kg to Degree.

Throw ball tournament was conducted for the women . Three teams participated. Mrs.Laveena and team won. The Runners Up was bagged by Mrs.Lydia Dcosta & team

Mr. Ronald Furtado won the Breaking the pot blind folded. Mr. Ryan secured the Runners Up position.

Rev. Fr.Joseph Martis and the guests present gave away the prizes to the winners and felicitated the Refreess at the Closing Ceremony.

The smiles and energy on everyone's face was an indication that the Sports Day was a grand success.
