Derebail Premier League: Cricket Tournament at Derebail Parish

The Derebail Premier League, a much-anticipated cricket tournament, was successfully held on 6th April 2025 at the church playground. This vibrant sporting event featured enthusiastic participation from six men's teams, two women's teams, and two children's teams, highlighting the community's spirit and passion for cricket across all age groups and genders.

The programme was officially inaugurated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. The inaugural ceremony was graced by several esteemed guests, including Mrs. Sheela D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC); Mr. Denzil Edrod Pinto, Secretary of PPC and President of the Derebail Parish Sports Club; Mr. Anil Patrao, Coordinator of the 21 Commissions; Mrs Lydia Dcosta, Vice-president DPSC; Mr Gerald Concessao, Secretary DPSC, Mr Avinash Serrao,  Treasurer DPSC, Mrs Pramila Furtado and Mr Shawn Pinto DPL-25 Coordinators. 

Fr. Joseph Martis in his address expressed his feelings of pride as the young and the old, men and women from the parish had come to participate in the day's event, thereby growing in friendship and fellowship through a beautiful sport like Cricket. He acknowledged that Derebail Parish was not just a spiritual family but also one that unites to nurture talents, strengthen bonds and enrich lives.

Mr. Denzil Edrod Pinto, in his dual role as President of the Derebail Parish Sports Club, warmly welcomed the gathering. The formal programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Gerald Concessao, Secretary of the Derebail Parish Sports Club. The entire event was skillfully compered by Mr. Arun Pinto, ensuring smooth proceedings throughout the day.

The Derebail Premier League 2025 stood out not only as a celebration of sportsmanship but also as a testament to community unity and the growing interest in cricket across generations.
