Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® Derebail Unit Organizes Elocution Competition

The Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® Derebail Unit conducted an Elocution Competition for the children and youth of the parish on 26th October 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Parish Meeting Hall.

The event commenced with a hymn led by Mrs. Dora D’Cunha, followed by Mrs. Shaila Noronha, Secretary of the Catholic Sabha, who briefed the participants on the rules and regulations of the competition. The event featured five categories, each with a distinct topic, providing participants the opportunity to showcase their oratory skills. Around 38 children and youth from the parish took part, impressing both the judges and the audience.

The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Parish Priest; Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris, Assistant Parish Priest; Mr. Denzil Pinto, PPC Secretary; Mr. Nelson Castelino, President of the Catholic Sabha; and Mrs. Shaila Noronha, Secretary. Mr. Nelson Castelino extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries. Mrs. Juliet Moras and Mrs. Celine Correa introduced the judges to the gathering.

Consolidating his observations on the day's performances, one of the judges gave constructive feedback. These tips would definitely help the  participants to enhance their future performances. 

In his address, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis congratulated the participants and highlighted the importance of learning different languages. He emphasized that “the world belongs to those who speak,” inspiring the young speakers to continue honing their communication skills with confidence and pride.

Prizes were then distributed to the winners, with Mrs. Shaila Noronha announcing the results. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Benedicta D’Cunha, while Mrs. Dora D’Cunha efficiently compered the programme.

Winners securing first and second place in each category have qualified for the Varado Level Competition, scheduled to be held next month.

Refreshments were served for all the participants and attendees.
