Altar Boys Special Training Programme Held at Derebail Church

A special training programme for the Altar Boys of Derebail Church was held on 13th July 2025. The programme began at 10:00 a.m. with breakfast.
At 10:30 a.m., Fr Clany D’Souza, Rector of Gladsome Home, conducted an insightful session on the parts of the Holy Mass and the role of Altar Boys. He used visual aids to explain the various sacred symbols used during the Eucharistic celebration and demonstrated how Altar Boys assist in the liturgy. He also gave a basic overview of other liturgical ceremonies such as Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Baptism, and others, highlighting the responsibilities of Altar Boys in each of these.
This was followed by practical demonstration sessions for the participants.
At 11:40 a.m., Mr Aloysius D’Souza, Headmaster of Urwa High School, delivered an inspiring talk on the theme “Altar Boys as Shining Stars.” He shared his personal experience as a former Altar Boy and explained how it helped him grow in boldness, courage, and closeness to the Lord and the Altar. He cited examples of successful individuals – doctors, engineers, businessmen, and artists – who began their journey as Altar Boys and were profoundly shaped by that experience.
He also offered practical advice on how Altar Boys should conduct themselves at church, school, and home, emphasizing discipline, reverence, and responsibility.
Later, Br Augustine conducted a few lively games that brought joy and energy to the group, making the atmosphere vibrant and enthusiastic.
In his concluding message, Fr Joseph Martis, the Parish Priest, stressed the importance of being attentive during Mass, maintaining respectful public behavior, and actively participating in daily Mass and weekly Adoration.
Fr Nelson Peres, the Assistant Parish Priest, and Mr Alwyn Carvalho, the animator, were also present and took care of all the arrangements for the day.
The programme concluded with lunch at 1:00 p.m.
