Church Ward Members Visit Karunamaya Ashram

“If you have been blessed, be a blessing to others; for, life becomes more meaningful when you encounter lesser privileged people.”

Thirty nine members of the Church Ward paid a visit to the ‘Karunamaya Trust’, Jeppu Kudupady Road, Kankanady on the 19th of March, 2023 at 4 P.M.
Established in 1992, the trust takes up the mission of living up to their motto – ‘caring for the uncared’ – and their team has dedicated their lives in helping the needy and the destitute.
The ward members spent an hour and a half with the sixteen inmates present, along with the managing trustee – Mr. Elias P. Coelho, the nurse – Mrs. Severine Coelho as well as the rest of the staff members.
A short programme was organized for the inmates, which began by invoking God’s blessings through a Tulu prayer hymn, sung by the ward Gurkarn - Mrs. Jane Machado and group. This was followed by a prayer dance by Ms. Sabitha Fernandes and team. A group song titled ‘Dabaazo’, glorifying the importance of konkani cultural songs, was sung by Mr. Victor Miranda and group.
Mr. Reuben Machado played the flute, alongside Mr. Richard Machado on the guitar, thus enthralling the gathering with two songs. Thereafter, Ms. Sabitha Fernandes performed a comedy narration about Bikes. Mrs. Jennifer Crasta and group then performed a dance to a foot-tapping number, choreographed by Ms. Sabitha Fernandes.
An interactive game called ‘passing the parcel’ was conducted for the inmates of the ashram by Mrs. Clara Miranda.
Mrs. Ashley D’souza, who also sponsored the evening snacks for the gathering, celebrated her birthday by cutting the cake with the ashram inmates as well as those ward members whose birthday falls in the month of March.
The ward members collectively contributed Rs. 13,050/- to Karunamaya Trust, as well as donated items like Rice, Wheat flour, Sugar, Semolina, Dal, Soaps etc.
Mr. Elias P. Coelho – the managing trustee of Karunamaya – expressed his gratitude for putting up one of the best programmes at the ashram.

The programme came to an end with the ward Gurkarn – Mrs. Jane Machado proposing the vote of thanks.

Mr. Victor Miranda compered the programme.
