Church Ward Celebrates Monthi Fest, 2022

The members of the Church Ward  celebrated 'Monthi Fest' (Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary) on 18th September, 2022 on the terrace of the building - Habitat One54. The members of the ward gathered at the venue by 6.30PM and began the event by invoking God's blessings with a reading from the Holy Bible by Mrs. Theresa D’cunha, followed by a brief reflection of the word by Mr. Richard Machado, and a prayer song lead by Mr. Reuben Machado and team. The annual report was read out by Mrs. Florine Figreda. Mrs. Jane Machado, the 'Gurkaar' of the ward, welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Sheela D’souza- Vice President, Mr. Gaulbert Pais – Secretary, and Mr. Edward Coelho – 21 Commission Coordinator were also present. 

This was followed by a cultural programme which comprised of a group song – ‘Dabaazo’ that glorified the importance of konkani songs, a group dance by the young and energetic youth members of the ward, and a rendition of the konkani 'maando' by the group.  At 7.30 pm, the ward members welcomed the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis and Rev. Fr. Gerald Pinto for the celebration. A short formal programme was conducted where the following children were felicitated: 1) Dashiel Concessao - Three gold medals in 3rd National Roller-Skating Championship, Jodhpur Rajasthan, Gold medal in D.K. District level wrestling championship conducted by Amateur Wrestling Association, Mangaluru. 2) Daniel Concessao - Two bronze medals in 3rd National Roller-Skating Championship, Jodhpur Rajasthan 3) Fiona Salome Mascarenhas - District Level Skating Championship, State Level Skating Championship, Gold medal in 500 mtrs, gold medal in 1000 mtrs. 4) Ms. Shallen Sequeira, for securing 97.16% in science stream in II PUC.

 It was indeed a proud moment for all the ward members as the dynamic talents of the ward’s youngsters received appreciation. The formal programme concluded and the cultural programme continued with Mr. Reuben Machado serenading the gathering with a melodious tune played on the flute. 

Next, a comedy skit titled 'Oondir' was presented by Mrs. Clara Miranda, Ms. Sabitha Fernandes and Mrs. Florine Figreda. Mrs. Jane Machado sang a thanksgiving song. Ms. Glain Figreda proposed the vote of thanks. A spot game called ‘Lucky Chair’ was conducted, which was won by Master Kian Saldanha. The entire event was compered by Ms. Shallen Crissel Sequeira. The highlight of the evening was the fellowship meal that all the ward members had together along with the dignitaries Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis and Rev. Fr. Gerald Pinto, who prayed the grace before meals. Each delicacy that was served during the meal was cooked by individual members of the ward. The ward members thoroughly enjoyed the evening with the baila dance.
