CHOWKI WARD PICNIC

March 6th was a memorable day for the members of Chowki Ward as it was the annual outing day after a very long gap.
On the morning of 6th March, a group of 54 men, women and children from 20 families boarded the bus near Marian Solace, Malemar at 9 am to the destination, ‘The Paradise Island’, Bokkapatna, Mangalore.
At Bokkapatna, Mr. Raj Kundar, the resort owner of ‘The Paradise Island’ welcomed the gathering and helped them into the boat. The team set sail  along river Palguni towards Mangalore Dhakke, where river Nethravathi meets river Palguni. All the ward members-young and old- enjoyed the boat ride. They were then taken further along river Nethravathi and were shown the extinction door where river Nethravathi and river Palguni merge into the ocean. They sailed back to Paradise Island and reached island by 10.30 am.
After a nourishing breakfast, a brief SCC meeting was conducted by the former Gurkar Mr. Newman D'Souza and ward representative Mrs. Mercy Menezes. This was followed by games, fun, frolic, music, sumptuous lunch, rain dance and playing in the river Palguni until 4 p.m.
Mr. Kishore Cutinha and Mr. Ronald Rodrigues were the conveners of the picnic. Ms. Joyline Cutinha wonderfully managed and conducted the games along with Mr. Kishore Cutinha. Ward representative Mrs. Angeline Pinto conducted the housie-housie game. Winners were happy to get good cash prizes.
At 4p.m the members set out boating to see the Bharath Boat Building Company which has now stopped its production. The members of the ward were taken near the half built ship to have a closer look after which they set back to Bokkapatna where the bus was waiting for them. The return journey was enjoyed by all singing and dancing. It was 5.30pm when the members bid goodbye to one another and returned home. It was indeed a wonderful day to remember.
