Independence Day 2015 Back

The Church plays an important role in the overall development of an individual. It makes a person spiritually able and also helps an individual realize the role that he/she has to play in the society. When the entire nation was gearing up for the 69th Independence Day celebration, the parishioners of Most Holy Redeemer Church, got together for the celebration of the feast of Assumption of Mary our Mother and the celebration of 69 years of freedom of our Mother Land.

The celebration commenced with the Eucharistic Celebration at 7.30. A.M. Rev.Fr.Vijay. Machado, Director of Mangala Jyoti and Rev. Fr. Joseph Lobo, the Parish Priest celebrated the mass. This was followed by the Independence Day celebration, organized by the staff and students of Most Holy Redeemer Church School within the premise of the church. The programme commenced with a prayer song. The Guests of honour were Fr. Vijay Machado, Fr. Joseph Lobo (Parish Priest), Fr. Anil Lobo (Assistant Parish Priest), Anil Patrao (Vice President-Parish Pastoral Council), Edward Coelho (Secretary- Parish Pastoral Council) and Sr. Christine (Headmistress-Most Holy Redeemer Church School, Derebail).

The National Flag which is a symbol of the nation’s pride was respectfully hoisted by Fr. Vijay Machado. The National Anthem was then sung. Fr. Vijay Machado addressed the gathering on this special day. He spoke on the significance of the day. Sweets were then distributed. The formal programme came to its culmination with a patriotic song.

Most Holy Redeemer Church has been serving the society through its schools, one at Derebail and the other at Kottara.  The Independence Day Celebration was also held at Kottara School. The Guests of honour for this programme were Fr. Joseph Lobo, Anil Patrao and Vincent Castelino (the President of Kottara Friends’ Club). After the flag hoisting, prizes were distributed to the prize winners at various competitions. Cash prize was awarded to the top scorers of the academic year. The cash prize was sponsored by the Kottara Friends’ Club. School Uniforms were then distributed. It is indeed a blessing to have donors who voluntarily come forward for this noble cause.  Sweets and ice cream were distributed.

“Under this flag, there is no difference between a prince and a peasant, between the rich and the poor, between a man and a woman."  In union as children of Mother Mary and of our Mother Land, the parishioners of Most Holy Redeemer Church, proved to be a testimony to these words that were once uttered by Sarojini Naidu.
