A Day of Joy and Unity: Parapade Upper Ward Celebrates Ward Day at Mercede Orphanage Back

The members of Parapade Upper Ward marked their annual Ward Day with a heart-warming visit to the Mercede Orphanage in Paneer, Deralakatte, on 26 April 2026. It was an evening defined by spiritual connection, vibrant cultural exchange, and the spirit of selfless giving.
Upon their arrival, the ward members were greeted by Sr. Luciana, Sr. Arogya, and the children. 

The program commenced with a soul-stirring prayer song performed by the children of the orphanage, followed by a spirited "Ward Song" sung by the members to celebrate their unity.
Mrs. Clotilda D'Souza officially welcomed the gathering, expressing special gratitude to Sr. Juliana Tellis, Sr. Marie Evelyn, the Sisters of the convent, and the children for hosting the celebration.

The evening was punctuated by words of wisdom and encouragement:
• Sr. Juliana Tellis emphasized the importance of spirituality and urged the children to remain forever grateful to those who care for them.
• Mr. Victor Correa spoke on the importance of building strong character and virtues from a young age to become responsible citizens.
• Sr. Marie Evelyn motivated the children to set clear goals and remain positive, reminding them never to lose hope and to seek guidance from their elders and teachers.

One of the most touching segments of the evening was the personal introduction session. The children shared their names and their dreams for the future, while ward members introduced themselves to the inmates, fostering a sense of family and belonging. The atmosphere turned festive with a series of "mind-blowing" performances:
• Dance: Excellent routines were performed by the orphanage children, followed by a dynamic performance by Mr. Lenn Sequeira and Ms. Fiona Pereira. The senior members of the ward also took to the floor with a wonderful dance of their own.
• Games: Competitive and fun games were organized for children of all ages, including team events that saw ward members playing alongside the children. Prizes were distributed to the winners, and gifts were given to every child present.

In a beautiful display of community support, the ward members and well-wishers presented both monetary contributions and essential items to the Superior of the orphanage. A special mention was made of the ward youth working both in India and abroad; their generous contributions, alongside those of their parents, truly enhanced the impact of the day.

Mrs. Lavina Sequeira concluded the formal proceedings with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the hard work of the organizers and the kindness of the donors. The evening concluded as it began—in prayer. After a final blessing by the children, everyone gathered to share dinner. Sitting together as one large family, the ward members and children enjoyed a meal that served as a perfect end to a day of meaningful connection.
