Special Day for the Specially Abled Persons at Derebail Parish

Derebail Parish witnessed a joyful and colourful Day for the Specially abled persons of the Parish. The Commission for the Specially Abled Persons of the Parish, hosted a unique celebration for the specially abled persons and their family members on Sunday 2nd June. The programme commenced with breakfast at 9.30 in the morning followed by Holy Mass offered by Rev Fr Joseph Martis, the Parish Priest. A resourceful talk was given by Sr Shruthi AC, Principal at St Agnes Special School. She lighted on the topic “The need to pay attention with love and care the specially abled persons of our families.” These are specially gifted persons and they need to be well integrated in our families and society. We have the responsibilities to integrate them in our society by finding suitable life sustaining skills and jobs. They need special love and care and the family and Parish have the responsibility to tend to their needs. She also spoke about the possible Government schemes available to such persons and the ways and means to avail them. After the talk, entertainment programme was organised with variety games during which some of the participants displayed their talents by playing musical instruments….. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the games and gifts were given as tokens of love to the family members. Fr Joseph Martis was the Chief Guest of the formal stage programme. He distributed the prizes and in his talk he appreciated the service rendered by the family members to these special children and also thanked the Commission for the Specially abled persons: Mrs Juliet D’Silva and all commission members for their initiative to organise such a lovely and thoughtful programme. He also noted saying we need to pay attention to such children of ours with utmost love and empathy. After the cultural programme, lunch was served to all the participants at 12.30 noon. The entire programme was organised by the Parish Commission for the specially abled persons under the guidance of the Parish Priest, Fr Joseph Martis, Fr Kevin D’Souza, Associate Parish Priest, Mr Anil Patrao, Coordinator of the 21 Commissions, Mrs Sheela D’Souza, Parish Vice President, Mr Denzil Pinto, Secretary. The programme was compeered by Mrs Jovita Serrao, Welcome speech was given by Mrs Jyothi Fernandes and Vote of thanks was rendered by Mrs Juliet D’Silva. It was a unique and superb progamme. The smiles on the face of these our brethren and those who take care of them was the best display of gratitude and appreciation. Derebail Parish counts around 25 specially abled persons.
