Inauguration of Catechism Classes

The Catechism classes for the academic year 2023-24 were inaugurated on Sunday, 4th June, 2023.  The Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Joseph Martis extended a warm welcome to all the children and parents. 

This year has been specially designated as the Year of Family by Mangalore Diocese.
Considering the role that family, the Catechism teachers and the Parish play in the spiritual growth of the child, the Catechism classes were symbolically inaugurated comprising these three important elements. Two young children representing all the other children walked in a procession to the altar with a candle and bowl in their hands. They were followed by parents who held the Holy Bible in their hands. The Catechists walked with candles that were lit. After the entrance hymn, a symbolic inauguration ceremony was conducted. As the first teachers of Catechism to the little ones, the parents placed a Holy Bible on the child's shoulder  to symbolise the fact that parents initiate their children into the Catholic Faith. Secondly, the teachers who walked towards the altar with light candles, lit the children's candles. Finally, the Parish Priest poured water into the bowl that the children were holding to demonstrate the role that a parish plays in the spiritual life of a child. 

Rev.Fr.Kevin Lawrence Asst. Parish Priest, Derebail, was the main celebrant. Rev.Fr. Rupesh Madtha, Editor of Rakhno and Deacon Conel concelebrated the Holy mass. 

In his Homily, Fr.Rupesh Madta interacted with the little children and stressed the role of Catechism in moulding their lives. After the homily, the Parish Priest administered oath to all the Catechism Teachers. 

At the end of the mass, Fr.Joseph Martis thanked all the priests who offered the Eucharistic celebration. Cake was distributed to all parishioners in the account of Fr.Joseph Martis' birthday.
