Devotional Nite at Most Holy Redeemer Church
The Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, in collaboration with the Youth Commission of the Parish, organized a Devotional Nite on March 30, 2025, at the Golden Jubilee Hall. The event commenced at 5:30 PM in the esteemed presence of Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Associate Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Kevin D’Souza, Parish Vice President Mrs. Sheela D’Souza, Secretary Mr. Denzil Pinto, and Mr. Anil Patrao, Coordinator of 21 Commissions.
The evening began with a soulful rendition of the hymn “Jai Sodvondhara,” accompanied by a graceful classical dance. Adding to the spiritual ambience, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Rev. Fr. Kevin D’Souza, and the Sisters of Maria Bhavan Convent delivered a heartfelt performance that moved the parishioners and enhanced the solemnity of the occasion.
The event unfolded with a series of devotional songs, each adding to the spiritual ambience. Parishioners who had secured first place in the 2024 Parish Singing Competition, organized by the Parish Choir, uplifted the evening with their solos.
A heartfelt duet redefining the essence of love was accompanied by a graceful dance performance of three newly wedded couples of the parish.This performance was a unique feature of the evening.
Adding to the musical harmony, the Mixed Group, Youth Choir, Men’s Group, and Children’s Group each presented a devotional hymn, elevating the divine atmosphere of the evening.
The highlight of the event was the captivating "Gumta" performance. Dressed in traditional Konkani attire, the performers enacted the migration of Catholics with Mother Mary from Goa to Mangalore. This historical reenactment was both informative and entertaining, offering a glimpse into the deep-rooted faith and resilience of their ancestors.
Every performance of the night was a testament to the collective dedication and unity of the parishioners, making the Devotional Nite a truly memorable and spiritually enriching experience.
The formal programme was marked by the presence of the dignitaries on the dais. Mr. Anil Patrao, under whose guidance the entire event took shape, shared insights into its planning and execution. He expressed his appreciation for the musical band that provided accompaniment throughout the programme. He noted that three of the six musicians were from Derebail Parish. Mr. Anil Patrao commended Mr. Russel Rodrigues, Mr. Ruben Machado and Mr. Joswin Dcunha for shouldering the responsibility of the evening's music. Each of these musicians was honoured with a shawl and a bouquet. He also acknowledged and called out to the people who played a crucial role in ensuring the programme's success. Each of them was presented with a bouquet in recognition of their contributions.
In his address, Fr. Joseph emphasized the unifying power of music. He illustrated how dedication and attendance for practices resulted in a remarkable performance. He concluded by extending his heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to Mr. Anil Patrao for his invaluable efforts in making the programme a success.
The programme concluded on a delightful note with a light-hearted drama on the "Misuse of Mobile Phones." The audience's roaring laughter filled the hall, reflecting the drama’s immense success.
Mr. Sheldon Crasta, the anchor for the event, kept the audience engaged and energized with his lively and interactive hosting.
