Catechism Day Celebrated at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail
The Catechism Day at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, was joyfully celebrated on 2 March 2025. The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration at 9 AM, presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis.
In his homily, Fr. Joseph interacted with the children and offered them valuable lessons on how to grow into good and responsible individuals. He also addressed the parents, and encouraged them to be role models for their children to emulate. The entire liturgy of the Mass was conducted by the children, with the children’s choir adding to the beauty of the celebration.
The Cultural Programme began at 5 PM in the Golden Jubilee Hall, graced by several dignitaries, including: Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Sunil George Dsouza, Diocesan Director of SCC;Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Parish Priest; Rev. Fr. Kevin Dsouza, Associate Parish Priest; Sr. Juliana Tellis; Mrs. Sheela Dsouza, PPC Vice President; Mr. Denzil Pinto, PPC Secretary; Mr. Anil Patrao, Convenor of 21 Commissions.
Mrs. Helen Menezes, the Coordinator of Catechists, welcomed the gathering.
The children captivated the audience with their graceful dances, melodious songs, and thought-provoking skits, all reflecting the values upheld by the Church. Sherwin Sequeira, Reon Pinto, Minal Lobo, and Rachel D’Cunha shared their experiences as Catechism students over the past year, emphasizing the vital role of Catechism in shaping young minds. Parents and Catechists also shared their perspectives—Mrs. Prathima Mascarenhas spoke on the importance of Catechism from a parent’s viewpoint, while Mrs. Nathalia D’Costa, a Catechist, reflected on her experiences as a teacher.
Rev. Fr. Sunil George Dsouza, the Chief Guest, commended the Catechists and children for putting together a remarkable programme. Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis also congratulated the children, Catechists, and parents for their teamwork and dedication. Rev. Fr. Kevin Dsouza rendered vote of thanks.
The event concluded with a Prize Distribution. Catechism Exam toppers and students with 100% attendance were honored with prizes. As a token of appreciation and gratitude, the Catechists were also felicitated for their dedication and service.
