Anti-Drug Awareness Programme at Derebail Church
Derebail Church organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on the theme "Say No to Drugs" for students from Class V to II PUC and their parents on Sunday, 5 July. The programme commenced at 8:00 a.m.
The resource person for the session was Mrs. Lydia Lobo, Administrator of the Link Anti-Addiction Centre, Mangalore. Drawing from her extensive experience in working with individuals affected by drug addiction, Mrs. Lobo delivered an enlightening and thought-provoking presentation. She explained the various types of drugs, the major causes of drug addiction, available treatment options, and the devastating impact that substance abuse has on individuals, families, and society. She highlighted the alarming rise of drug abuse in today's society and emphasized its far-reaching and destructive consequences. She cautioned the children about the methods employed by drug peddlers, who often lure young people by initially offering drugs in attractive and seemingly harmless forms. Over time, these substances create dependency, making children and youth easy victims of the drug network.
Mrs. Lobo also urged parents to remain vigilant and closely observe the behaviour of their children. She pointed out that sudden changes such as social withdrawal, loss of interest in studies, isolation from family and friends, or unusual behavioural patterns should never be ignored. Parents, she stressed, should identify the underlying causes at an early stage and provide timely guidance and support. She concluded by offering several practical suggestions to both parents and children on how to prevent drug abuse and build a healthy, value-based lifestyle.
The session was highly informative, engaging, and well appreciated by all those present.
At the conclusion of the programme, Fr. Joseph Martis, the Parish Priest expressed his sincere gratitude to Mrs. Lydia Lobo for her valuable and inspiring presentation. He also encouraged the children and parents to remain vigilant, make wise choices, and work together to safeguard themselves and society from the growing menace of drug abuse. The programme concluded at 9:00 a.m.
