All Men's Ward Meeting at Kottara Ward: A Unique Initiative to Increase the Participation of men in Ward activities

On the 18th of February 2023, Kottara Ward under the leadership of Gurkar Mr. Michael Dsilva organised a Unique Get-together for only Men in the ward. The occassion was graced by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Rev. Fr. Gerald Pinto and Br. Vikas Pereira.

Mr. Gerald Castelino graced the occassion with a prayer. Mr. Vincent Castelino welcomed the gathering and also mentioned about good work done by Kottara Ward in the past. One of the initative which started from Kottara Ward and then spread like wild fire in the parish was Eye Donation awareness.
  
Gurkar then spoke about the intention of the meeting where he elaborated how the current Ward meetings are proceeding and the participation of Men in the ward meetings. He mentioned we have generous, resourceful, helpful men in the ward but participation in the ward meetings is currently weak. He emphasized on the importance of Men being active in Ward meetings and the difference this would make in the ward and to the entire Parish.

Fr. Joseph Martis shared his inputs/views on his observation and the present participation of Men in the Christian community on a whole. He mentioned from few years participation of men maybe in Ward meetings/activities or even at Parish level has shown a steady declining pattern and the impact of this on the society. There is an imbalance created in our Christian community and the impact of this on Families, Children and couples getting into the sacrament of marriage. He empowered the men to take on leadership roles in wards, parish.

All the men interacted with each other. All agreed that as men they should meet more often to share constructive ideas to build the ward. It was also agreed the need to participate more actively in all ward programmes including the monthly Small Christian Community meetings.

Gathering was then followed by a fun filled Bible Housie beautifully conducted by Br. Vikas Pereira, followed by fellowship Dinner.
