The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On 8th of September, 2018 the Feast of Nativity was celebrated with much devotion and joy at The Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail. All the Parishioners especially children carrying flower baskets gathered at the church school ground at 07:00 AM. There were hymns and prayers rendered in devotion to Mother Mary. The grand procession was accompanied by the musical band while children showered flowers to Mary and Gurkars carrying the blessed corn into the Church.

The Eucharistic celebration followed. Rev. Fr. Anil D’ Souza was the main celebrant. Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres - Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gration Alvares - Residential Priest and Rev. Fr. Walter Pinto con-celebrated the mass. In the Homily Rev. Fr. Anil D’ Souza explained the four folds significance of the day. Firstly the celebration of the birth of the Virgin Mary, secondly the festival of Harvest, thirdly the family feast and finally the celebration of the Girlchild.

The new corn was distributed by the Gurkars to all the Parishioners after the communion. The melodious choir by the children added to the solemnity of the celebration. The mass ended with the distribution of the sugarcane to all the Parishioners - children and old alike. The Parishioners of Derebail church assembled as one family to celebrate the nativity of our mother with great glee.

The Derebail Church sports club organized fun games for the Parishioners in the evening on the church ground.
