Konkani Niyal Back
Konkani Niyall which literally means arousing concern for the Konkani language in the hearts and minds of the Konkani people was the main aim of the first cultural programme organized as part of the year long Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Derebail Church.
The programme was presented by Vishwa Konkani Kala Ratn Eric Ozario and his troupe of Mandd Sobhann fame on Sunday, 16th June, 2013 at the church hall. The one and a half hour programme consisted of an interesting mix of song and narrative, urging Konkani people to preserve the rich Konkani heritage by speaking and living Konkani language and culture in their day to day life.
Mr. Ozario started by claiming that Konkani was God's own language because terms like `Dev Boro Dis' and `Dev Borem Korum' for good morning and thank you respectively included God's name, which is not found in any other language, Further, he announced the 10 commandments for Konkani along with 10 resolutions to be adopted by Konkani people for preserving and enriching the Konkani language and culture.
Rev Fr Peter D'Souza, Parish Priest, Derebail presided over the programme. Convener of the Jubilee Celebrations, Mr. Anil Patrao welcomed the gathering in the beginning and proposed the vote of thanks at the end.
