Celebration of Nativity of Mother Mary at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, 2023
The Feast of Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated at Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail on Friday, 8th September, 2023. As a part of preparations for the feast the Faithful thronged in large number in particular children in participating in nine days of Novena. The novena masses were held at 5.30 PM, followed by Novena Prayers and strewing of flowers in front of the Grotto. Variety of sweets were distributed to children who offered flowers during the days of Novena.
On the feast day, the Faithful assembled at St. Ann's School, Kuntikan at 7.30 AM. The festal ceremony began with a short prayer service including honouring of the statue of Infant Mary and blessing of New corn. Children strewed flowers in honour of Mother Mary. This was followed by a procession of the faithful to the Church carrying the Infant Mary statue and blessed corn by the Ward Gurkars and Priests. The ceremonious beats of brass band and choral singing enhanced the feeling of festivity.
The solemn Eucharistic Celebration began at about 8.00 AM. The Main celebrant was Rev. Fr. Rudolph Pinto, Director of Ryshivana Retreat centre. Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. Kevin D'souza Asst. Parish Priest concelebrated the mass.
In his Homily, Fr. Rudolph highlighted the importance of Mother Mary who continues to intercede day and night to build stronger families with Christian values and Faith.
After Holy Communion, the new corn was distributed by the Ward Gurkars to the faithful. The Parish Priest acknowledged the service rendered by the members of the PPC and various other associations towards the smooth functioning of the festal celebration. He expressed gratitude to the donors who generously contributed towards the feast expenses. Sponsors and donors were honoured with Mordom Candle. The children's Choir enriched the Eucharistic Solemnity with their choral singing.
The mass ended with the distribution of sugarcane and melodies of brass band. It was indeed a joyous moment as the entire parish gathered as one family which added to the festive vibes.
