Celebration of Elders' Day at Holy Redeemer Parish, Derebail

Most Holy Redeemer Parish, Derebail, celebrated Elders' Day with great joy and enthusiasm on Sunday, 26 July 2026. The programme was jointly organized by the Commission for Family, Commission for Youth, Commission for Liturgy, and the members of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO).

The celebration commenced with the solemn Eucharistic Celebration at 10.30 a.m., presided over by Fr Maxim D'Souza, Professor at St Joseph's Seminary. In his inspiring homily, he highlighted the invaluable role of the elderly in families, the Church, and society, encouraging everyone to cherish and care for them with love and gratitude.

Following the Holy Mass, the participants were served refreshments. The formal programme began with a graceful prayer dance presented by the students of St Ann's School, Kuntikan. This was followed by a variety of games and light entertainment, which brought smiles and laughter to all present.
Mr Vincent Rebello captivated the audience with his lively humour and efficiently compered the programme, ensuring an atmosphere of joy throughout the event.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Joseph Martis, the Parish Priest, shared an inspiring message of hope, reminding the elderly that they are a priceless treasure and a source of wisdom for the parish community. Mrs Mary Vas proposed the vote of thanks, and Fr Steevan Nelson Peris led the gathering in the grace before meals.

 The morning session concluded with a delicious fellowship lunch enjoyed by everyone. The celebration continued in the afternoon with a meaningful outreach programme. Six teams visited the sick and homebound elderly members of the parish, carrying fruits and a special gift as tokens of the parish's love, gratitude, and concern. These visits brought comfort, joy, and encouragement to those who were unable to participate in the parish celebration.
The entire Elders' Day celebration was a memorable and uplifting experience. It strengthened the bonds of our parish family and reminded everyone that our elderly and sick are treasured gifts whose faith, wisdom, and prayers continue to enrich the life of our parish community.
