DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAMME

‘The key to your future is to go drug free.’

On the 21^st of January 2018 the members of Yuva Spandan Derebail (YSD – ICYM) got together with the support of YCS, local hindu organizations and our very own parishioners to shine light upon the ‘usage of drugs and its ill-effects on the society’.

As drug abuse has become rampant in the city of Mangaluru and also some cases being reported in the vicinity of Derebail this was an apt cause. The programme began with a march from Kuntikan with all the gathered people walking solemnly. The youth were shouting slogans with vigour and were also distributing pamphlets with information about drug abuse. Posters with meaningful pictures and messages were also held aloft. It was a joy and delight to see the kids join along for the march too.

The march culminated at the Konchady rickshaw park wherein everyone present gathered at the nearby ground for a short programme. The programme began with Maizy Fernandes speaking about the ‘effects of drugs on the individual as well as the society’. A  heartwarming mime was also presented by the YSD and YCS members, it received a whole lot of cheer from the audience. Mr. Yogesh Shetty from the Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike and our parish priest Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres gave valuable messages. All the organisations and individuals who had given a helping hand for the cause were thanked profoundly .The highlight of the programme was ‘signing the banner’ by everyone present. The banner would then be handed over to the Mangalore City Police. This was an enlightening experience for all of us.
