DPS Cricket Tournament: Derebail Super Kings bag trophy

The Sports Club of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, conducted DPS Cricket Tournament for the parishioners on Sunday 11 February, 2024 at the Parish Grounds. The trophies were sponsored by Mr.Alphonse and Mrs.Janet Serrao and Mrs.Mable Fernandes in memory of Late Maizy Fernandes.

The tournament began at 9.00 a.m with a prayer conducted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. The stage programme was graced by Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis; Vice President PPC Mrs. Sheela Dsouza; Coordinator of 21 Commissions Mr
Anil Patrao; President of Sports Club, Mr. Sandesh Mascarenhas , Secretary Mrs. Lydia Dcosta and Treasurer Mr. Lionel Saldanha.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis addressed the gathering and spoke on importance of sports and lauded the good work and systematic manner in which the tournament was organised.

The guests then officially inaugurated the tournament. There were 6 teams with their respective owners. The day passed with the spectators witnessing some amazing competition and they overwhelmingly enjoyed by cheering the teams.

The commentators for cricket were Roshan Vas. Ullas Dcosta, Preetham Almeida and Rishon Mascarenhas.

The final matches were played between teams that belonged to Mr. Edward Sequeira ( Derebail Super kings) and Mr. Loy (Derebail Eagles. After a tough fight, Mr. Edwards team was declared winners and Mr. Loy 's team bagged the Runnes up Trophy.

Rev. Fr. Kevin and the guests gave away the prizes to the winners and Runners up. The President of the Sports Club felicitated the Umpire at the Closing Ceremony.

The tournament was compered by Mr. Sheldon Crasta and Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mrs. Pramila Furtado.

The smile and energy on everyone's face was an indication that the DPS Cricket Tournament was a grand success
