The Commission for Education, Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, celebrated Teachers’ Day on 6th September 2026, honouring the dedicated teachers of Derebail Parish. Around 50 teachers, both retired and currently serving, from the parish attended the programme.
The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address by Mrs Noeleen Pais, a teacher.
The sponsors of the programme, Mr Denzil Fernandes, Mrs Merlyn Mascarenhas, Mrs Veena Lobo and Mrs Pramila Furtado, were honoured with bouquets by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. Fr. Joseph also welcomed and greeted all the teachers present with a flower each.
The members of the Commission for Education rendered a special song honouring teachers and acknowledging their valuable contribution to society.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis spoke about the role of teachers in today’s challenging educational environment. He encouraged them to follow the path of Jesus in their profession and highlighted how they could continue to grow and achieve progress in their careers while facing the challenges of modern-day education.
Mrs Dora D’Cunha and Mrs Wilma Crasta shared their experiences and reflections from their years in the field of education, offering valuable insights into the joys and challenges of the teaching profession.
Mrs Pramila Furtado conducted a lively game of Housie-Housie for the teachers, adding an element of fun and fellowship to the celebration. Parish Council Vice President Mr Denzil Fernandes distributed prizes to the winners.
Mrs Cynthia Martis proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the programme. Mrs Rekha D’Souza compered the event.
The celebration was a fitting tribute to the teachers who have dedicated their lives to shaping young minds and making a lasting contribution to society.
