Catholic Sabha Annual Elocution Competition 2021

The Catholic Sabha  Mangalore Pradesh annual elocution competition was held in Derebail church at the parish level on Sunday, 14th November,  2021.

The competition was held in 3 + 2 categories in Konkani and Kannada languages  respectively.  

The programme started with the invocation hymn in the church meeting hall.  The Competition convener Ms. Pramila Furtado, Joint Secretary, Derebail unit,  welcomed the gathering and read out the rules. Ms. Benny D'Cunha, member, officiated as the time keeper. Ms. Dora D'Cunha,  Secretary, Derebail unit and Convener of Varado level competition, Ms. Wilma Monteiro, Treasurer, Derebail unit and Ms. Juliet D'Silva,  I.P. President, Derebail unit, handled the back office. 

Ms. Lavina D'Souza,  Shaktinagar and Mr. Albert Lasrado,  Angelore officiated as the judges for the competition. 

In all, 14 contestants participated across categories.  Although the number was small for our parish, mainly due to the uncertainty of the Covid situation, the level of the competition was good. Derebail parish has the distinction of being among the top honours at the diocesan level for the past many years.

In the valedictory ceremony,  Mr. Anil Patrao,  President welcomed the gathering. Mr. Robert D'Silva and Mr. Francis D'Souza introduced the guests. Mr. Albert Lasrado spoke on behalf of the judges and appreciated the efforts of the competitors. Rev. Fr. Austin Peris, Parish Priest gave away the prizes and addressed the gathering wherein he stressed the importance of good public speaking in shaping the future leaders of the society. Ms. Dora D'Cunha,  Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. 
Ms. Sheela D'Souza,  Vice President, Parish Pastoral Council and Mr. Gaulbert Pais, Secretary were the guest of honours.

The programme ended with a thanksgiving hymn. Tea, snacks and ice cream was served to all present.

Category IV - 8th to 10th std

Category V - PUC onwards upto to 28 yrs
I - Preema D'Souza, Highway

The top 2 in the III, IV & V category qualify for the Varado level competition,  which will be hosted by Derebail church on the 28th of this month. The winners and runner ups will qualify for the Diocesan level competition to be held in December.
