Independence Day Celebrations at Kottara Cross, Kapikad, Derebail, Mangalore on 15.08.2019 

On the joyous occasion of India's  73rd Independence day , a flag hoisting ceremony was done at Kottara Cross, Kapikad, Derebail, Mangalore on 15.08.2019 . This programme was done in collaboration  by the Members of the Swamy Aiyappa Bhakta Samithi and Kapikad Ward, Derebail Church Mangalore under the name of Kottara Cross Mitra Vrunda.

Guruswamy Tukarama Devadiga welcomed the gathering which primarily consisted of all locals . Guruswamy Tukaram Devadiga, Edward Coelho, Gurikar and Mr. Boniface Rego, Member of the Kottara Cross Mitra Vrunda were the guests on the Dais.

The programme began with a recital of the famous Vande Matharam, after which Guruswamy requested the Chief Guest of the Day Mr. Edward Coelho J., the New Gurkar of Kapikad Ward, Derebail Church to Hoist the national flag. Mr. Edward Coelho J, unfurled the flag and the gathering sang the National Anthem.

A small quiz then followed. Questions based on Nation, Freedom Fighters, Constitution, Flag, Wheel, etc., was conducted by Mrs. Winnie Rodrigues and Ms. Jessica Crasto. In the meanwhile, Mrs. Terry Pais, President of Diocesan Woman Association, Mangalore addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of women and their rights in India.

After the Prize Distribution to Winners by the guests on Dais, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering. He stressed the importance of movements like Swach Bharath  and contributed his ideas on how citizens could contribute towards the same.  We can live happily in our locality and society by keeping our environment clean as well. More so, in our life style, our behaviour, dressing, talk and deeds and help the needy. Mrs. Winnie  Rodrigues proposed the Vote of Thanks . Mr. Sylvester D’Cunha compered. High Tea was served to the audience. It was a great occasion .Although it poured people enjoyed the celebration held in the open air by holding their unbrellas till end of the programme. It is their Love for our beloved nation that made them participate actively.
