Vanamahotsava by YSD-ICYM Back

'A little bit of greenery around you can brighten your day.' With this in mind we the members of YSD-ICYM decided to start the year by celebrating vanamahotsava and planting a few saplings. The inaugural ceremony took place in the church portico with Fr.Austin Peres unwrapping the first sapling and handing it over to Mrs.Lizzie Fernandes. He also stressed about the importance of vanamahotsava and the need of educating our youth and children about nature in his inaugural address.Fr.Gratian Alvares, Mrs.Lizzie Fernandes and Mr. Mike D'Silva were also present on the dais. The programme was compered by Ivy Melisha D'Souza with Jennifer Pinto welcoming the gathering and Joylin D'Cunha delivering the vote of thanks. Thereafter the gathered crowd went to the cemetery to plant the various saplings of lime, chickoo and drumsticks. The saplings were donated by Mr. Michael D'Silva. The members had put in efforts by weaving coconut fronds and decorating the portico as well as by digging the holes for the saplings on the previous day. The members looked resplendent wearing green and blue colours for the occasion. All the members felt content at doing their bit to preserve Mother Nature.
