Derebail Parish Sports Club Silver Jubilee Inauguration And Inter Cluster UnderArm Cricket Tournament Back

A bright day of the spring season on which all the cricket lovers of the Parish had gathered at one place with a lot of enthusiasm. With joyful hearts and minds a huge number of parishioners had come together on 18 November 2014 at Derebail Parish Sports Club ground. Age was not at all a constraint on the day as the people of various age levels beginning from the small kids to the elderly persons had made their way to the ground. All this was just to witness the amazing display of passion and talent.

The Derebail Parish Sports Club (D.P.S.C.) had organized a cluster level under arm cricket tournament for the parishioners. This was in accordance with the celebration of the glorious Twenty Five years Jubilee of the club. The tournament was begun by invoking Almighty God’s blessings on the gathering. Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Peter Dsouza and Asst. Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Vinod Lobo, Vice President of the parish council Mr.Anil Patrao were the honorary guests for the day. The guests addressed the gathering and filled the players with words of encouragement. Later the ball was bowled and played on the pitch by the guests symbolizing the inauguration of the tournament. The President of Derebail Parish Sports Club Mr.Sandhesh Mascarenhas and Vice President of Sports Club Mrs.Lydia D’costa and the office bearers accompanied the guests.

It was all set for a huge battle between the newly formed clusters of the parish. 22 wards were divided into 8 clusters by combining two or more wards. The teams were named as,

  • Superstars
  • K3 Eleven
  • Red Bulls
  • Kingfisher A/B
  • Imagica A/B
  • Dynamic Gladiators
  • Scorpions Eleven
  • Champs Eleven

The day went on to be the one on which an amazing skills and talents were exhibited. The spectators were served with a tremendous display of pure cricketing skills, passion, team effort and sportive spirit.

Women also proved that they aren’t inferior in any of these talents by actively participating in the tournament. Women were also included in the 11 member squad wherein one over to be bowled by a lady was mandatory. This proved to be an interesting factor too of the day.

At the end of the day the teams that could make it through to the finals were Champs Eleven A (consisting of Parapade lower and Akashbhavan wards) and Superstars (consisting of Bejai, Kapikad and Kottara Cross). After a furious battle between the two fierce rivals, the Champs Eleven proved to be the ultimate superiors by winning the tournament comfortably. Ultimately the day ended up on a high note of mutual respect and love towards the opponents.
